Historically, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. The ouroboros is a symbol of eternity and continual renewal of life.
Snakes can also sometimes be associated with deception, self-interest, and slyness.
I personally love the layered symbolism around snakes & serpents. I think they are a great representation that not everything is purely good or bad. And in fact, it’s a better reflection of people as a whole – we are multifaceted and complex.
